Last week I spoke with Dr. Shu about what the next step is for my treatment plan. Since I’m still not in remission after two protocol attempts, they’ve decided to try this drug called nelarabine. Since Ontario doesn’t fund this particular drug, we’ve had to seek approval to get the drug paid for and delivered. Hopefully by next week we will have the drug, and can start chemo asap. Nelarabine is apparently particular effective against cancerous T cells and is often used to treat ALL for patients that have not had success with other protocols (AKA me). It sounds like this chemo drug is right up my alley so I’m hoping third times the charm so to speak.

In the meantime, I have been spending most of my time at home since there’s no reason to stay at the hospital as long as my bloodwork looks fine. As much as I much prefer spending time at home, I’m anxious to be relegated to my hospital room again as I receive my seemingly tailor-made chemo drug.

Still fighting,

Ethan Wissell

  1. Ethan, we are glad you get to spend some time at home. At least you can get some rest. We hope the new drug comes in soon. Love from Texas, Sharonn and Randy.

  2. Good morning Ethan,

I was wondering how your meeting with the doctor went. Great to hear they have made a plan and set the wheels in motion. Sounds like a lot of protocol but it also sounds like this is your drug.

    Thinking of you all.
