I am currently receiving my second dose of nelarabine at PMH this morning. So far so good. There is one quite scary neurological side effect associated with this drug but its very rare and if I were to experience it I already would have so I think Im in the clear. They will keep monitoring… Continue reading July 30th, 2016

Yesterday I spoke with one of the doctors who works under Dr. Schuh and found out that my chemo drug is set to arrive at the hospital on Wednesday. After some pestering in various different areas of the hospital we were able to book a time for transfusion on Thursday morning. The protocol calls for… Continue reading July 26th, 2016

Thankfully, the Ontario government has approved the hospitals request for the nelarabine drug, however it came with a caveat. For some reason, the drug was only approved to be used for an outpatient protocol so yesterday I was discharged as an inpatient and became an outpatient. On the plus side, this means I can stay… Continue reading July 21st, 2016

Last week I spoke with Dr. Shu about what the next step is for my treatment plan. Since I’m still not in remission after two protocol attempts, they’ve decided to try this drug called nelarabine. Since Ontario doesn’t fund this particular drug, we’ve had to seek approval to get the drug paid for and delivered.… Continue reading July 17th, 2016

The last couple of days I’ve been able to come home during the daytime since I don’t need to be at the hospital for anything until I get my 10 pm medication. It’s a nice break from the usual routine, and a nice break from the PMH wifi which is borderline unusable during business hours.… Continue reading July 13th, 2016

I was able to get an overnight pass yesterday, which was nice. Went out for dinner and saw a movie in one of those VIP theatres. I find it easier to sleep all the way through the night when you don’t have any IV alarms going off or nurses waking you up to do vitals.… Continue reading July 10th, 2016

Bad news today. Unfortunately, neither one of my brothers is a full bone marrow match, and so they’ve got to go looking for a high quality match within the general public. Fortunately, right now it looks like there is a good chance of finding an unrelated full match donor. My white cell count hasn’t been… Continue reading July 8th, 2016

Since I don’t really need any medication via IV and I’m feeling good, I got to go home for the a little while today. It was my first time being home since May, which seems strange to think about. Went for a walk in the ravine, hung out in the backyard and had a great… Continue reading July 6th, 2016

Another lazy Sunday here at Princess Margaret. Spent most of the day outside on the roof because the weather was so beautiful.  Count came down again today, to 2.0. I also talked with the on call doctor today, who happened to be one of the doctors who dealt with me when I first arrived and… Continue reading July 3rd, 2016
